What is a Prayer Hub and Who are the Main Players?

Please click the brochure link on the right for a visual overview of our project.

The need for a global prayer hub has been talked about among the UK praying community for almost as long as the internet has been in existence.  There have been many differing interpretations about what a prayer hub actually is and does!  Looking at it in its broadest terms, THE INTERNET already is a prayer hub, in that it allows rapid communication globally between praying people.   Information is passed on faster now than ever before - but its not co-ordinated or controlled and there is loads of duplication!

For the praying community there are two fundamental challenges that need to be addressed - 1, the accuracy and integrity of the information AND 2, the need for secure and controlled access to some types of information.

To achieve this, there needs to be a managed mechanism for collecting the information and a system for registering and categorising users and delivering the appropriate sensitivity level of information to them. Ideally, the system needs to be easily integrated into existing websites, providing its features and benefits to the smaller local groups as well as the larger national organisations. The solution needs to be secure where appropriate and it must be accessible and affordable to all.

The Prayer Forum of the British Isles and Ireland put out a challenge to its members several years ago for someone to develop solutions to this need.

Two groups responded, one being an initiative pioneered by Brian Mills of Interprayer, and later working under the Prayer Forum banner, which has developed a weekly Prayer Digest called 'Prayer Alert' which is despatched around the world.

The other was the 'Prayerhub.info' project led by Canon John Simons of Prayer Network UK (aka Crosswinds) who along with their Singaporean partner 'Christian Arts Asia' are developing a state of the art internet based solution. The web service has been designed to provide a range of features for praying individuals, prayer organisations and any Christian organisations that want to harness prayer for their activities.   It is planned that it will be launched during 2009, serving the British Isles and Ireland initially.

Prayer Network UK was founded by John Simons in 1994 to mobilise inter-denominational Christian Prayer across the UK.   Their motivation was 2 Chronicles Chapter 7 Verse 14.  Their unique model was based on the mapping of the 124 postcode areas, which presented an ideal non-denomination platform.  To date, many thousands of people have taken part in their 'Crosswinds Week of Prayer' initiatives across the UK.

as to how the prayer hub will serve the praying community.
